Fans petition Netflix for Daredevil season 4 (updated)

(probably) Spoilers for the Netflix Daredevil series.

At this point, I don’t know if there’s any intention of us doing more seasons.”

Daredevil actor Charlie Cox said this to the Hollywood Reporter back in October just three days after the premiere of season three of the groundbreaking Netflix series, Daredevil.

Today, a petition has gone active on change.org asking/demanding that Netflix renew Daredevil for a fourth season.

As of right now they have acquired thirty five signatures, which is admirable, if not a little unnecessary.

Let’s be honest, Daredevil is arguably the best Marvel Netflix series out there right now, and with the ending of season three, we get to see Matthew Murdock/ Daredevil, finally at peace with himself and at a point where he may not need to be Daredevil anymore. This is an amazing thing to see as we have never seen a character in fiction, or at least in a superhero movie/ TV series, get to a point where they don’t need to be said superhero.

The reason for this is because if they don’t need to be the hero again, then there would be no show (or whatever medium you choose). So why should we want a fourth season of Daredevil?

Given what we’ve seen from Daredevil so far, we’ve been introduced to some of the greatest heroes and villains, from the Punisher to Wilson Fisk. We have seen loose adaptation of some of the best story arcs from the Daredevil comics, like Born Again and Man Without Fear. But we’ve also seen Charlie Cox act his ass off and give us perhaps the most well rounded and exciting performance to grace our screen in a long while, to me anyway.

What right do we as fans have to ask for another season? Plus, is another season still in the cards? Reports have indicated that the show has lost more and more viewers as the show has gone on. Maybe the third season of Daredevil was so good because they knew that this was and should be the end of the series. Think about it, Matt ended the series smiling, why should we want to see that smile fade? The only way Daredevil season four works is if something terrible happens to someone Matthew loves is taken from him and he is forced to put on the red/black mask once again. Why should we want that?

Update: Thanks to a report from Deadline, a representative of Netflix has stated that Daredevil has indeed been cancelled.

Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,”

The Netflix rep continued with: “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.”

While it should be noted that the report goes on to say that the Daredevil series will still be a part of Netflix’s streaming lineup, one has to wonder how the upcoming Disney streaming service, Disney +, is having an effect on the recent rash of cancellations of Marvel’s Netflix series.
