Usagi Yojimbo finds a new home

Since first appearing on the indie comic book scene back in 1984, Miyamoto Usagi, the ronin rabbit, has had a long and storied history in the black and white comics from both Fantagraphics Books and Dark Horse Comic respectively.

The wandering swordsman is perhaps best know for his frequent team-ups with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Most recently in the pages of IDW Publishing, Usagi Yojimbo had teamed up with the Heroes in a Half-Shell once again back in September of 2017. For longtime Turtles fans, it was a bit of a homecoming seeing him fight alongside the Turtles, one that we didn’t know when, or even if, we would see again.

Well, according to the NY Times, that time is closer than we think. It was announced today by Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai that IDW Publishing has acquired the rights to publish a monthly Usagi Yojimbo monthly series, and a new monthly series is set to hit store shelves in June of this year.

On top of that news, IDW is planning on republishing the original Usagi Yojimbo books in a collected edition format, in full color. This news is something I never thought of reporting and I absolutely cannot wait for to see this series reprinted and I am beyond excited to see what Stan Sakai has in-store for the new series from IDW Publishing.
