If I were to tell you that the Banana Splits were getting their very own movie, you’d probably get fond memories of the 1960’s variety show that ran re-runs on Boomerang about a decade ago.
But a couple of days ago, a trailer for the upcoming horror film starring the Banana Splits was released online and I could not be happier about it. Sure, you could argue that the this looks like a cheap knock off of the Five Nights at Freddy’s video game series, but that same series is a cheap knock off of being locked in a Chuck E. Cheese’s at night.
Sure, based on this two minute trailer, one could argue that this film looks cheap, it stars a bunch of unknown actor’s and it’s plot revolves around an intellectual property that no one has thought about in for decades now, but I can’t help but find the appeal of a happy-go-lucky horror film about animatronic puppets that turn to murdering children after hearing that they’re going to lose their jobs. Sounds like a fun time.
The Banana Splits, directed by Danishka Esterhazy and starring Dani Kind, will be released on digital and Blu-ray some time this year.
