No Daredevil for Disney until (at least) 2020

A report on this past Wednesday suggests that Disney cannot use the popular character of Daredevil until 2020.

According to sources that have contacted Variety, a clause in the contract between Netflix and Marvel indicates that Marvel and Disney cannot use the characters found within the popular Netflix shows featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

While details on Jessica Jones’ show are minimal, considering that it’s the only pre-Defenders Netflix show that’s still going on means that it is safe until the premiere of it’s incoming third season, which is set for a 2019 release.

And don’t even get me started on the Punisher. According to Variety, The Punisher was not included in the original deal between Marvel and Netflix, so after its second season, which should premiere in January, that show could be cancelled as well.

Honestly, Disney and Marvel may very well reboot all of these series, banking on Netflix users willing to give these shows a second chance under the MCU banner. Whether any of the actors that portray the comic book characters from their respective shows will return is a story for another time…but yeah, they’re probably all done.

Even if the shows were rebooted and the casts of each show returned, it wouldn’t be the same. Not that they’d be bad, but we all know that Disney wouldn’t go as mature as Netflix was willing to.
